The oldest church in Alicante, in Valencian Gothic, was built between the 14th and 16th centuries on the site of the old great mosque. It was reworked after the fire of 1484, and the rectangular façade tower went up in 1713, beside the L-shaped one of the 14th century. Its doorway is Baroque, and it has been a basilica since 2007.
