The convent and church of the Discalced Mercedarians, founded in 1640 by Diego Pérez Mestre, a captain of the Indies fleet; the church, Baroque and on a Latin-cross plan, dates from the middle of the 17th century. In 1746 Diego de Sousa e Sarre painted the pendentives of the crossing, and the earthquake of 1755 brought down the vault of the choir. After the confiscation of church property the convent had other uses and the church stayed as an aid to its parish.
