The sanctuary the Jesuits built around the birthplace of Ignatius of Loyola, to a design by Carlo Fontana. The first stone was laid on 28 March 1689; the church and the south wing were finished in 1738, with a circular basilica under a dome 65 m high, and the north wing was built from 1760 to 1767. It is still a place of worship and of spiritual exercises, and its Museo Sacro (sacred museum) occupies the north wing.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
