The prison that Cádiz decided to build in 1792 on a better-ventilated site, designed by Torcuato Benjumeda: his plans carry the date 1794, though he signs with a title he did not hold until 1807. Juan Daura left it nearly finished in 1836, when it began to be used as a jail, and the last stretch, by the sea, was not completed until 1990. Since 2010 it has been the Casa de Iberoamérica, a cultural centre with exhibition rooms.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
