Campofrío

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Hamlet of Aracena, a town from 1753

Campofrío, a hamlet already mentioned in 1401 and 1411, depended on Aracena until Ferdinand VI granted its separation by royal privilege in 1753. In the mid-16th century its people were spread over 18 small settlements, and the brotherhood of Saint James the Apostle, which drove the building of its bullring in 1716, held great political and economic power, above all in the second half of the 18th century. The bullring survives from the period.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
