The Franciscan monastery raised in the 16th century under the patronage of the marquisate of Los Vélez, of which the Renaissance façade with its coats of arms remains. The convent was rebuilt entirely in the 17th century, with a church of a single nave and six chapels. Disentailed in the 19th century, it fell into ruin and has been under rehabilitation since 2012.
