The church of Santa María del Prado, now a cathedral, was begun in the early 15th century over an earlier one from the time of Alfonso X. The apse and the adjoining bay are of the 15th century; the other bays of the nave, with star-shaped rib vaults with tiercerons, were closed in 1514 and around 1580, and the Baroque new sacristy dates from 1632. The high altarpiece was made between 1612 and 1616, and the tower, the last part to go up, was finished between 1827 and 1835.
