The Renaissance nave and crossing that Bishop Alonso Manrique began to build in 1523 in the middle of the old mosque, despite the opposition of the city council, until Charles V intervened so that it could go ahead. Hernán Ruiz the Elder directed the work, his son Hernán Ruiz the Younger continued with the transept, and Juan de Ochoa finished it with the dome over the crossing, from 1599 to 1607. Inside are the high altarpiece, from 1618 to 1653, and the choir stalls by Pedro Duque Cornejo, from 1748 to 1757.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
