The convent of La Merced Calzada, founded in the 13th century and of which nothing is left in view, was rebuilt between 1716 and 1760: the church from 1716 to 1745, the main cloister around 1752 and a marble staircase under a dome. After the Desamortización it was an orphanage from 1835, and since 1960 it has been the seat of the Diputación Provincial. A fire in 1978 destroyed the church's high altarpiece, which was replicated and inaugurated in 2014.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one.
