The Renaissance gate that Córdoba raised beside the Roman bridge to mark the Cortes of Philip II in 1570, on the site of Roman and Islamic gates. Its construction was ordered on 18 February 1572 and Hernán Ruiz III took over; the work stopped until 1576 and was left unfinished. The inner face is a copy of 1928, and access to its interior, closed since 2020, might open at weekends.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
