The church of the town, promoted by the Dukes of Medinaceli, lords of El Puerto: its building is documented from 1486 and by 1493 it was open for worship. The earthquake of 1636 brought down the main nave, and the rebuilding, which Antón Martín Calafate took over in 1647 and Francisco de Guindos continued from 1659, was inaugurated in 1671. The Gothic Puerta del Perdón, the Plateresque Puerta del Sol and the Neoclassical baldachin by Torcuato Benjumeda, from the late 18th century, survive; it is open for worship and to visitors.
