The church Elche raised over the mosque Alfonso X consecrated in 1265 and over a first Gothic church that was pulled down. Work began in 1672 under Francisco Verde, Nicolás de Bussy carved the three portals between 1680 and 1682, and it was finished in 1784. A fire in 1936 partly destroyed it. The Misteri d'Elx is staged here each August.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
