Role: Town that bought its independence from Navarrete

In the 17th century its inhabitants bought independence from Navarrete, on which they depended, for 6600 ducats. Its church was united with that of Navarrete from 1356 until 1 December 1785. In 1784 the founding meetings of the Real Sociedad Económica de La Rioja were held in the house of Francisco Tobía y Ubago.
