The castle that Philip IV had built in 1653, when the War of the Reapers ended, on the top of Montjuïc mountain to guard the approaches to the plain of Girona from the north; it was finished in 1675, according to the Spanish article. It was square, with four bastions and four defensive towers, and was useful in the sieges of 1808 and 1809; in 1811 it passed to the French and in 1814 Suchet put it out of use. Today it is an abandoned site where remains of the vaulted rooms and the foundations of the towers survive.
