The Baroque basilica that the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God built, at the urging of the prior Fray Alonso de Jesús Ortega, to house the remains of its founder. José de Bada built it between 1737 and 1759, in stone and brick, and it was inaugurated on 27 October 1759. Its façade stands between two towers with slate spires, and the silver urn with the saint's relics is in a camarín of the main chapel.
