The Franciscan convent that the Catholic Monarchs had built in 1494 over a Nasrid palace in the Alhambra, where Isabella and Ferdinand lay buried until their move to the Royal Chapel in 1521. Most of its present appearance dates to the 18th century, with the bell tower of 1787. The Franciscans left in 1835, Leopoldo Torres Balbás restored it from 1927, and it has been the Parador de San Francisco since 1945.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
