The Casa del Cabildo, the old council house, raised in 1575 under Philip II by the master builders Andrés de Ribera, Diego Martín de Oliva and Bartolomé Sánchez, as its inscriptions say. It faces the plaza de la Asunción with a Renaissance façade and a porticoed gallery of three arches. From 1873 it housed the municipal library and the Archaeological Museum, and it again holds council offices.
