The first Protestant cemetery in Spain, laid out on municipal land beside the Vélez road under a Royal Order of Ferdinand VII of 1830 and built from 1831, so that non-Catholics no longer had to be buried at night on the beach. It was conceived as a botanical garden in terraces facing the sea, and the Gothic Revival gatehouse at the entrance is dated 1856. Its graves include those of Robert Boyd, Gerald Brenan and Jorge Guillén.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
