The fort began as a provisional wooden fortification on 19 November 1734, when the hill of the Cubo was taken, and was rebuilt in masonry in 1735 and 1736. After the siege of 1774 to 1775 it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1778, to a design by Juan Caballero. Rectangular in plan, it has a battery reached by a ramp and underground vaults; its restoration began in 2019 and the works were inaugurated in 2021.
