The Benedictine monastery founded in the 10th century by Count Osorio Gutiérrez, of which nothing earlier than the 17th century survives. The main cloister was built from 1637 to 1650, the façade at an angle to the church between 1648 and 1650, and the church was begun in 1735 to plans by Juan Vázquez, altered by Fernando de Casas y Novoa. The Neoclassical high altarpiece is by Ventura Rodríguez. It is the seat of the town council.
