The church the Jesuits built between 1584 and 1599, with a plain three-storey façade and a single nave with a dome over the crossing. It was dedicated to Saint Lawrence until the Order was expelled in 1767, when it received the image of the Virgen de la Calle, the city's patron, and became a parish sanctuary. Its high altarpiece, in undyed wood, is a Baroque work of the 18th century by Pedro Bahamonde.
