The Jesuit college, built between 1695 and 1714 to Pedro Monteagudo's designs beside its church, now San Bartolomé. After the Society's expulsion in 1767 it was a cloth factory of the English Lees brothers, a secondary school, a poorhouse and an orphanage. Since 1978 it has belonged to the provincial museum, which calls it the Sarmiento Building and shows its archaeological and ceramics collections there.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
