A sanctuary with a round plan inspired by the scallop shell of the pilgrims, at the foot of the Portuguese Way of Saint James. The first stone was laid on 18 June 1778 to the designs of the master builder Antonio Souto; work ended in 1792 and the neoclassical high altarpiece dates from 1789. Around 1795 a storm brought down part of the north tower, which was not repaired until 1873.
