Puebla del Caramiñal

Today: A Pobra do Caramiñal, Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Two settlements, Puebla del Deán and El Caramiñal, joined around 1822

In the Middle Ages two settlements stood out in the area: the Puebla del Deán, governed by a religious chapter, and El Caramiñal, a fishermen's quarter under the lordship of the house of Junqueras. El Caramiñal was raised to a villa in 1554 by Gómez Pérez das Mariñas, and the Villa del Caramiñal and the Puebla del Deán joined around 1822. From the period survive the Torre de Bermúdez and the church of Santa María la Antigua, begun in 1506.
