The observatory of the Navy, created in 1753 at Cádiz and moved to this Neoclassical building on the hill of Torre Alta. The Marqués de Ureña drew it in 1791, work began on 3 October 1793 and ended in 1797, and the move took place in 1798. The plan is cruciform, the present dome dates from the mid-20th century and the institute still belongs to the Navy, which sets the official time of Spain.
