The fortress church built between 1726 and 1738 to replace the chapel of San Valerio, too small for the population, and to serve as a refuge from Barbary pirates. It has high, thick blind walls, an iron-bound door with a machicolation and a barrel vault to withstand artillery fire. Most of the images are replacements, since the old ones were lost in the Civil War, and in 2004 its façade was painted white, which caused great controversy.
