The arcaded square of the Old Town, called Plaza Nueva until it became Plaza de la Constitución in 1820. The earlier square burned with the city in 1813; the present Neoclassical one, with 20 arches on each long side and 9 on the short one, was built in 1817 by Pedro Ugartemendia and Alejo de Miranda. The central building was the town hall until 1947, and the balconies are numbered because they served as boxes for bullfights.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
