The Baroque church of the Old Town, raised from 1743 to a design by Pedro Ignacio Lizardi and Miguel de Salazar and finished in 1774. It replaced the Gothic church, badly damaged when the powder magazine of the Castillo de la Mota exploded in 1688, and it kept that church's plan and orientation. When the city burned on 31 August 1813, the two parish churches were spared, and so was the street that leads to this one, now calle 31 de Agosto.
