The Gothic cathedral, formerly the collegiate church of the Cuerpos Santos, built between the end of the 12th century and the 14th; in 1754 the diocese of Santander was created and the church became a cathedral. From the 17th century come the chapels of the south aisle, of 1622 and 1624, and the first chapel of the north aisle, of 1671. The fire of 1941 left it badly damaged and it was rebuilt and enlarged from 1942 to 1953.
