Toro

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Capital of the province of Toro from 1749

The Cortes of Castile met here in 1505 and on 7 March promulgated the Laws of Toro. After a decline in the 17th century the city recovered and in 1749 took over the districts of Carrión and Reinosa as capital of the province of the same name; the town hall, the clock tower and the Hospital General de Nuestra Señora de las Angustias date from then. The division of 1833 took away its capital status and made it part of the province of Zamora.
