The College of San Jaime and San Matías, whose works began in 1564 to educate young converted Muslims, the College of San Jorge and Santo Domingo, dated 1578, and the church of Santo Domingo, of 1585, make up the Renaissance complex of Tortosa. The courtyard of the first, with its frieze of royal couples and a doorway of about 1570, is the only Renaissance courtyard in Catalonia. The Santo Domingo college was razed by the bombings of 1937 to 1939 and keeps only its doorway; the church is now the city's formal hall and houses the Renaissance Interpretation Centre.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
