Trujillo

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Capital of the province of Trujillo

From 1528 it was the capital of the province of Trujillo, which the Censo de los Millones of 1591 recognised as one of the provinces of Spain, though it depended on that of Salamanca. In 1653 it joined Plasencia and other towns to buy a joint vote in the Cortes of Castile. From 1800 it lost the importance it had had, and the War of Independence left it invaded, destroyed and occupied several times.
