The oldest surviving theatre in the city, planned from 1774 to designs by Filippo Fontana and redesigned by Cristóbal Sales, whose works began in January 1808. The Peninsular War halted them, Juan Marzo resumed them in 1831 as a three-storey building instead of four, and it opened on 24 July 1832; the present façade is José Zacarías's, of 1854. It is still a working theatre.
