A fortress raised in 1656, with the town wall, where there had been a hermitage of San Sebastián, to protect the town from the English and the Portuguese; by 1667 the wall linking it to the Castro fortress was finished. The English left it in ruins in 1719, in the 19th century it served as a hospital and it was a barracks until 1964. In 1970 parts of the wall were pulled down to build the town hall, which occupies the site with the plaza del Rey.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
