A polygonal granite fort on top of the Monte del Castro, part of the network that fortified the town in the war with Portugal: work began in 1665 and in 1666 the plan was drawn up that joined it to the castle of San Sebastián. In 1809 French troops held it until the townspeople retook it on 28 March. Today it is a public park, with gardens, a crucero and a viewpoint over the ría.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
