The Benedictine abbey, an ecclesiastical lordship whose abbots in the 16th century became bishops of Granada, has its present building, the third, begun in 1778 according to the inscription on the façade and finished in 1780. After the confiscation of 1836 it fell into ruin and abandonment; the school it housed has been closed since 1995.
