Role
Royal town with a seat in the Cortes

Villarreal, a royal town since its foundation in 1274 with a seat in the Cortes, saw the friar Pascual Baylón die in its convent of the Rosario, and his tomb became a centre of religious influence. In 1706 Bourbon troops stormed its walls, and under the Bourbons its population grew fourfold over the century. The parish church of San Jaime, built between 1752 and 1779, is the largest of its kind in Spain.

To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one.
