The arena for gladiator fights, built at the end of the 1st century BCE and planned together with the theatre next to it, the two making up the great show ground of the capital of Lusitania. It was abandoned around the 4th century and lay partly buried until the early 20th. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1993, within the archaeological ensemble of Mérida.
