Roman Hispania

Labitolosa

Today: La Puebla de Castro, Spain

Years
100 BCE–200

A Roman town on the cerro Calvario, beside the river Ésera, that lived from the 1st century BCE until the end of the 2nd, when it was abandoned. No ancient author names it: until the excavations began only an inscription found in the 16th century, speaking of the cives Labitolosani, recorded it. Its elite produced Publius Clodius Flaccus, whom Hadrian raised to the equestrian order.
