The wall that rings the old town entire, dated by its materials and by the finds to the second half of the 3rd century. It is the only Roman wall to survive complete around its whole circuit, with its towers and the stretches between them, and it is walked along the top. It has been a World Heritage Site since 30 November 2000.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
