A late Roman building half sunk in the ground beside the church of Santalla, some fourteen kilometres from Lugo, which was made known in 1926. The lower storey survives: past a small porch with two columns and a horseshoe-arched door, a hall with a pool at its centre and a brick vault painted with birds, the most important set of wall paintings left in Hispania. It is dated between the 2nd and 4th centuries; whether it was a temple of Cybele, a nymphaeum or a healing sanctuary is still argued.
