The magistral church Cardinal Cisneros had built between 1497 and 1514, designed by Pedro Gumiel and raised by Antón and Enrique Egas, in the Gothic of that time; its tower was begun in 1528 and finished in 1618. With Saint Peter's in Leuven it is the only church with the title of Magistral, which required all its canons to be doctors of theology. It burned in 1936 and lost almost all its treasures; it has been a cathedral since 1991 and can be visited.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
