The college with which Cardinal Cisneros founded the University of Alcalá, its first stone laid on 14 March 1499 to Pedro de Gumiel's plans. Its Plateresque façade was built by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón between 1537 and 1553, and the courtyard of Santo Tomás de Villanueva went up from 1617 to 1662; inside is the great hall of 1516 to 1520, where the Cervantes Prize is presented every 23 April. Abandoned when the university moved to Madrid in 1836, it is now the university's rectorate.
