The Renaissance town hall of Alcañiz was built between 1565 and 1570 around the new plaza Mayor, at a right angle to the lonja, after steps begun in 1547; the dates are approximate, with no contract or articles of agreement to support them. Its main façade is of ashlar and the side one of brick. It was altered and enlarged, mostly in the 18th century, and the courtyard keeps inscriptions for the building of 1570 and the Baroque enlargement of 1797.
