The former collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor (1407 to 1851) keeps the great tower of its 13th-century Gothic church. Three years after the Soledad chapel was blessed, in 1732, it was decided to pull down the rest, and in 1736 the Baroque building designed by Domingo de Yarza, with the Pilar of Zaragoza as its model, was begun; its portal-altarpiece was probably finished in 1779. The chapel was saved from the demolition.
