Aldea del Obispo

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
Episcopal lordship village on the Portuguese border

Repopulated by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, it was granted as a private lordship to the Bishop of Ciudad Rodrigo by Fernando II of León in the 12th century, which gave it its name, and the lordship lasted into the 19th century. Since the Treaty of Alcañices of 1297 it has been a border place with Portugal, and the Real Fuerte de la Concepción was raised to reinforce that point. In 1833 it was placed in the province of Salamanca.
