The monumental gate of the city wall, formerly called Puerta Nueva, whose construction was finished in 1551. Two cylindrical towers flank a Renaissance arch bearing the arms of Carlos I, and the inner face has a chapel of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles; the towers served as a royal prison until the end of the 19th century. It was restored in 1960 and now stands in the middle of the city, on a roundabout.
