The hospital in which the Consell de Cent and the cathedral chapter merged six hospitals of the city in 1401; its 15th-century Gothic core is not counted here. From these years date the great Plateresque door on carrer de l'Hospital (1518), the monumental stairs of the courtyard (1585), the Casa de Convalescència, begun in 1629 and finished in 1680, and the Colegio de Cirugía that Ventura Rodríguez raised in 1764. Today it houses the Library of Catalonia, the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and public libraries.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
