The palace that Manuel de Amat i Junyent, viceroy of Peru from 1761 to 1776, had built on La Rambla after returning with a large fortune. It went up between 1772 and 1778, with a façade of Montjuïc and Santañí stone and a courtyard with a double staircase, under the direction of Carles Grau; his widow, the vicereine, gave it its name. Today it is the seat of the city council's culture department and an exhibition venue, and the Gegants de la Ciutat are on permanent display inside.

We count visits ourselves, with no cookies and nothing stored on your device. To count people rather than clicks, we keep a one-way code derived from your connection and browser for at most 48 hours and then delete it; what remains is totals per page that identify no one. We never store your IP. We also use Plausible, analytics hosted in the European Union that likewise sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, to learn which sites send readers here and how many searches are run, never what is searched for.
