Habsburg and Bourbon Spain

Baza

Today: Spain

Years
1492–1833
Role
City of the Kingdom of Granada, an abbey and co-cathedral

After the Granada war ended, Baza, Guadix and Almería capitulated, so the inhabitants did not have to leave the city, and the Catholic Monarchs granted it its coat of arms on 28 August 1494. The lands of the rich Muslims were shared out in lordships such as the Estado y Casa de Baza of Enrique Enríquez de Quiñones. In the 18th century the partido of Baza was the second largest in the Kingdom of Granada, and in 1787 the city had 7,740 inhabitants.
